Our Story

We, a couple of New Zealanders living in NYC, wanted to make something from a recycled product.  After trying various different materials we realized the answer was staring us right in the face, selling itself to us.  It was not the latest 0% financing deal on a new car from one of the manufacturers, nor the next episode of a cinematic trilogy.  It was the vinyl billboard that these ads are printed on.  Manufactured to weather the worst mother nature can throw at them, these vast commercials were perfect to be reused for another purpose, rather than sent to the land fills as the majority are.

After many phone calls and a lot of legwork we tracked down our first billboard.  We then set about knocking a few different sample bags together using a sewing machine we bought online for $US59 … we should give a plug for the “Euro Pro”, (we actually think it’s made in China) as it far exceeded its recommended load.

Next we found a professional Manhattan based manufacturer to put together some samples for us, luckily their workmanship was a vast step up from our effort.  Once we put these through a test period, which included a trip around the world dragging them from one place to another, stuffing them in planes, trucks, cars and other tight spots we settled on our first design.

The response we have had has been great. We are always looking at expanding our range so keep checking back for new offerings.

Anyway, that's how we started and only time will tell how we end. One thing's for sure donkey ny bags, made from waterproof rip-stop recycled billboard vinyl, will be around for years!
